Swelling in the body can occur for a variety of reasons, and understanding the underlying cause is key to effective treatment. I offer specialist support for a range of conditions, including primary and secondary lymphoedema,
venous oedema, and lipoedema, using evidence-based therapies tailored to your individual needs.
Primary Lymphoedema
Primary lymphoedema is a condition that develops due to a congenital or hereditary issue within the lymphatic system. It may be present at birth or develop later in life, and can lead to persistent swelling, most commonly in the limbs. In many cases the cause in unknown.
Secondary Lymphoedema
Secondary lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system has been damaged or disrupted, often as a result of surgery, cancer treatment (such as lymph node removal or radiotherapy), trauma, or infection. This can result in a build-up of fluid and long-term swelling in the affected area.
Venous Oedema
Venous oedema is linked to problems within the veins, where blood flow back to the heart is reduced. This can cause fluid to collect in the lower limbs, leading to swelling, discomfort, and skin changes if not managed effectively.
Lipoedema
Lipoedema is a chronic condition characterised by an abnormal build-up of fat tissue, typically affecting the legs and sometimes the arms. It is often symmetrical and may be accompanied by pain, tenderness, and easy bruising. Unlike general weight gain, it does not respond typically to diet and exercise.

I provide specialised treatments to help manage symptoms, improve comfort, and support your overall wellbeing:
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
MLD is a gentle, hands-on therapy designed to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage the natural drainage of fluid. It can help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and promote a feeling of lightness and ease in the body.
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
CDT is considered the gold standard treatment for lymphoedema management. It is a comprehensive approach that may include MLD, compression therapy, skincare, and tailored advice on movement and self-care. Treatment plans are personalised to support both reduction and long-term management of swelling.
Whether you have a recent diagnosis or have been managing your condition for some time, treatment is tailored to you, with a focus on long-term support, education, and empowering you to feel in control of your health.
